It’s time to share another “little Internet treasure”, in this case related to Corporate Culture. I suppose the concept “Digital Transformation” sounds familiar to all of you, but perhaps what everyone misses is that this transformation occurs in a vision, culture and strategy level. Technology makes everything possible but in this process doesn’t play the main role, but a piece (an important one) so that the puzzle makes sense.
Corporate Culture is the set of beliefs, values and artifacts shared by the employees of an organization. The base of the culture is in the belief and the values, hidden elements that materialize in behaviors, some evident and others unconscious. The repetition of the same patterns of habits and the alignment of all the elements creates an emotional and instinctive bond with the company. This allows to create an identity and sense of belonging to employees, establishes the rules, limits and objectives of the game, creates a framework of consistency for management, and strengthens and models the attitudes and behaviors of employees.
What happens when society changes radically and the new generations crashes with the culture, organization, processes and tools established by the companies? What is needed is a change. And where does this huge transformation begins? In the culture.
There are many examples of innovative and digital corporate culture, good practices of big companies that have managed to create an ecosystem adapted to the new generations. Google is undoubtedly the flagship (I recommend to read “Work Rules” by Laszlo Bock)but there are many other less known examples such us Netflix, Spotify, Zappos or Medium.
