I suppose many of you know the famous YouTube channel Simone’s Robots where Simone Giertz, a Swedish maker who isn’t an engineer, creates useless robots of all kinds that work badly… She calls them shitty robots.

The question you are all asking yourselves now is: how has she achieved everything she has achieved (collaborations with TV programs, NASA, MythBusters, other famous YouTube channels…) by building useless robots? In addition to his charisma and the comic tone of his videos that has led her to have millions of followers, Simone’s philosophy is to make creative and ingenious ideas tangible using robots, without the pressure of focusing on the details of performance or optimization. It’s not prototyping ideas, because in that case everything should work well in order to collect feedback from users, but a form of expression, of creativity, while learning new techniques such as programming or electronics. Here is his TED Talk where she explains his philosophy.

Recently (May 2018) Simone had brain surgery and told all of her followers about it in these two videos. She hasn’t published anything new yet, but on her Twitter she tells us how she’s doing. We hope she will recover soon and be able to share with all of us her robotic craziness again.
