Yesterday we launched d(ate), where we feature reviews on a considered selection of bars, restaurants, and hotspots around Toronto.

Going out can be tough. Deciding which on the list of Toronto’s 10 Best *insert food here* Spots is actually the winner, chronically calling restaurants to see whether there is a table available. We know that it is hard coming up with new ideas every time you go out, so when you do it should be special— and not just to the pub down the street. We do all the vetting for you and only send you recommendations of the best. We really have fun at each spot we post, making them must shares.

How it came to be

Rebecca and I came up with this idea a couple months ago.

While we wanted to improve this experience, we’ve been quite busy catching up on a few other things and had never found the time. But a few weeks ago, we made it happen.

It was when we were on our way out from Hanmoto after finishing a delicious meal that we both looked at each other and said, “that was amazing, how haven’t we been here before?” A day later, I had already purchased a domain (www.rediscovertoronto.com) and pushed a splash page live. Before we had even posted anything, we already had people commenting, following, liking, and sharing the website. We knew we were on to something. I spent the next week working on the next phase.

After a couple iterations, here we are a week later with the first version of d(ate). A simple website with two pages and our first review, powered by a MailChimp campaign that delivers the reviews directly to your email.
