Enter Technology, Innovation and SDGs approach in Food and Agriculture is key to the feed future
UNIDO Itpo Italy and Future Food launch the International Award “Innovative Ideas and Technologies in Agribusiness”
It’s hard to believe that in 2019 there are 795 million people who are hungry every day. Almost one-quarter of all children worldwide are malnourished — with the largest contributor to disease being malnutrition — this is a very concerning fact.
It’s for this reason that the global food system needs to be improved. It’s also critical that we improve how we produce, distribute and store surplus food. With global warming becoming more of an urgent concern, it’s imperative for all of us that these global food challenges are addressed.
Besides, there are other issues such as the frightening speed that deforestation is taking place. Agriculture is the most significant driver of this and between 2015 and 2016, it rose by 51%.
Also, a lot of what we grow uses methods that aren’t sustainable. Food surplus is often not stored in the best way and much of it goes to waste (1.3 billion metric tons of food a year is wasted).
With stats like this, it’s time for us to put our focus on making dramatic changes in the way we produce and distribute food. Solving hunger and food insecurity is a must in order to solve other challenges that are affecting us on a global scale.
Technology and innovation can give us the change that we need to address food challenges
Technology has been at the core of revolutionising agriculture throughout the ages. From the invention of the wheel and ox-drawn ploughs to the implementation of a robotic farm. it’s saved time, made for greater harvests and in some cases has destroyed pests and insects.
Knowing how valuable technology is in the future of food, we’ve partnered with one of Italy’s most influential bodies in innovation. We want to encourage all and every innovation that we can in the food process to secure a better future for all of us.
The award winner will enjoy the opportunity to implement their innovative ideas and will gain support from UNIDO ITPO Italy and Future Food in doing so.
Enter to win an award, exposure and overall priceless support

Focus on innovative and sustainable solutions for the food system
The mission of the contest is to discover some truly innovative and sustainable solutions on a global basis. These solutions would be used for social and economic achievement for developing countries.
They may be used in any part of the food process with an angle of climate change and responsible management of surpluses to co-mingling of agriculture, energy and environment –
- Production
- Processing
- Preservation
- Logistics
- Consumption
What will catch the eye of our food innovation judges?
