When in Amsterdam..Do what the Dutch do, take a bike tour!
It is hard to distinguish work from fun when you are doing what you are most passionate about. This was the highlight of the first day of the Global mission in Amsterdam.
With a jaw dropping, high energy level, the FIP champions headed straight to Kitchen Republic, a startup incubator that allows chefs, startuppers and caterers to develop their ideas with minimum risk. After a presentation by Bart-Jan Veldhuizen, the founder of Kitchen Republic, the group had a delicious lunch that featured clam soup, bau buns and soy sprouts. Right after lunch, in the same location a exploring a novel concept for catering with Maarten Nielsen from the Food lineup where sustainability is their raison d’être not a marketing label, deservedly identifying their activity as game changing catering.
Then the students went to Food Hallen, an indoor market with a relaxed, feel good atmosphere that featured both high quality and novel products. The variety of these goods, and the youthfulness of them make for a special experience that people wouldwant to have again and again. It is truely incredible how food can change people’s mood and bring out the best in them.
When In Amsterdam…
Take a bike and see the city for all its youthful splendour! The group was divided into two groups, the first group, together with Hugo Potharst (photographer and trendwatcher) explored an innovative hospitality concept at City Hub, fresh hand roasted coffee at Lot Sixty One, the very trendy Snckbr (page in Dutch only), and responsibly sourced chocolate with unusual flavours at Urban Cacao.
The second group was guided by Frank Lindner, senior editor & trendwatcher at Food Inspiration magazine. The first stop was after the hearts of the tealovers in the group. They enjoyed an “exciting, healthy and accessible Tea experience” with a high quality choice of Teas from around the world at T’s. The group got to enjoy a typical dutch snack at Febo.
To conclude this amazing day of exploring exciting new food trends our group headed to InStock for a delicious dinner prepared from food surplus, an intelligent and concious strategy to reduce food waste.
Stay tuned for more excitement, innovation and deliciousness..
