AMA:
Q: Mandatory question, when did you start making Future Funk and music?
I was on and off music production for a while but Future Funk was really the thing that made me want to stick with it. I started around 3 years ago making future funk after being recommended Artzie videos on YouTube, the music was really fresh sounding and reminded me a lot of french house which is what made me want to start.
Q: What got you into making music?
My inspiration for music right now has been a lot of french house and sample based producers since I’ve been in the mood to produce stuff similar to it lately. The Phantom’s Revenge, Poka, and Le Knight Club to name a few. Overall there’s too many producers to name off both in future funk and not that have been influential to me lol.
Q: Admittedly I’m not that familiar with your back catalogue, but what are your personal favourites from your time as an artist?
My back catalog is kind of complicated since I changed my name a lot, haha. Personal favorites I made are probably Alright, Sunshine, and my collab with Escape and Rhodes. They’re fairly different but are all high energy in their own ways
Q: What are your previous aliases?
My previous future funk aliases were, in order: flippy 19XX, Flashback, Bastet, and now Snowshoo.
Q: What was one of the greatest moments you ever had in your musical career?
One of the greatest moments I ever had in my music career was probably when Aritus reached out to me and told me how much he loved my music and wanted me to be a part of his collective, it was a super big deal for me to be invited to a label I always looked up to.
Q: Where do you see Future Funk heading?
I see Future Funk heading in a good direction, there’s a lot more business-focused labels and artists that are determined to put an original spin on sampling than there were before and there is a ton of variety in the music. Plus a lot of people trying to play and organize shows. Producers are really pushing the boundaries on what they can call Future Funk which I think is a great thing. So overall, my outlook on the genre is a positive one.
Q: What DAW and what musical equipment do you use?
I use FL Studio 20 and the only equipment I have is a keyboard and my headphones
My setup is very minimal but I’m comfortable producing in it and I can achieve whatever sounds / melodies I’m looking for without expensive equipment
Q: Where does your mascot/picture come from?
My “mascot” is actually just fanart of Hibiki from Kantai Collection. It’s not something original, I just picked something cute as a profile picture. I’ve thought about designing an original character to represent the artist name in the past but I feel it’s a bit too overdone.
Q: What are the best plugins you advise to any future funk producer to use for instrumentations in some of their songs?
Depends on what you want to use in your songs. My top picks would probably be Kontakt and Serum. Honorable mention goes to the PG-8x VST, it’s a good free emulator of the Roland JX-8P.
Q:What are your plans for the future of your musical career?
I’ve always kind of casually made music as a hobby, it’s always been an outlet for me to express myself creatively here and there but I’ve never fully put 100% of my time into it which is why my uploads are so spread out. But I’ve been considering going into it full-time so that I can keep uploading fun music for the people that like to listen to my stuff and to keep growing my production skills. I’ve also been planning to start a new EP soon.
Q: Do you have any last words before this ama ends?
Big thanks to the people that put this AMA together and all the people that still stick with me and support me. Much love to all of you guys and new music coming soon.
