JAVA is the new COBOL

In the beginning man tried to talk to computers in a natural way, so as he had nothing similar to Natural Language Processing, he invented COBOL, and it was in such a way like, “Hey take this variable and this one and do something with it then put it on this third variable and bla bla bla”.

In the 70s people got stoned and lazy and talked using acronyms and that stuff, and so they started to talk to computers in lazy languages like C and it was kewl man. Less is more and Keep It Simple Stupid.

COBOL was and… is really important in important sectors like emh 01 SectorName PIC X(32) VALUE SPACES…. and C is important in everything else.

In the 90s a new hope was born, JAVA came as a fresh breeze revolutionizing industry. It was fun for a while to develop in JAVA but it quickly grew to a seven headed monster, probably after it became a replacement for COBOL and then it became a too serious language, for people with suit and tie. The fun was over.

JAVA was cool indeed, even with its strong types and strict syntax and everything else, yeah it was cool and it was the new C for a big while but sadly we have to admit that it has grown to be the new COBOL and that’s it. It’s time for new languages…
