Welcome to The Knowledge Age
We all know where this path , once undertaken by artificial intelligence, leads, at one time or another, the dreaded, technological singularity will finally be produced.
Will it be good? Will it be bad? Who knows? The fact is that finally machines will become aware of themselves, will be able to evolve and expand without the need for human intervention or maybe man transcend the flesh, the human mind take unimaginable paths so far and man and machine are become just one entity. As I said, who knows?
At the moment this is still science fiction and we are still light years away. The much applauded artificial intelligence hardly runs. The machine learning is to teach the machine to be good at repetitive tasks or specific problems and deep learning which allows a learning closer to the human cognitive model, twists with detractors who say it is not enough yet.
On the other hand we still have other things to develop, we still have to help the machines to help us, teach them to learn and teach them about our world, so that this singularity, far from being a dystopia, is a better world for all.
The extraction of knowledge from infinite corpus of human knowledge, is becoming one of the most exciting and innovative tasks in the technological world, I dedicate myself to it, and I can tell you, without any doubt, that it is something fascinating, a true engineering challenge.
Google has been doing this for years, it is not surprising that it is one of the leading. Did you think that services so cool and free, are they so, just why? Google handles a huge amount of data and knowledge, which allows to train cognitive models with real data.
Once structured and unstructured data are manageable by the machine and can begin to infer and learn based on them, the cognitive act becomes reality, that’s why today’s titanic task is to make what is currently readable and understandable only for humans readeable and undestable for machines. It is the first phase towards strong AI, the one that can really emulate human capabilities and that will take us where we have not yet been able to dream.
This is very good, because the machine can put at our disposal data and information that we did not know we needed and do it in anticipation of that need. Let’s assume that the human mind is very limited, its field of perception is tiny, it is conditioned, subordinated and sometimes even the obvious escapes us. The good news is the existence of new intelligent models in the management of knowledge and that is just a wonderful thing.
