Jira and Monday are both project management tools that are commonly used in software development. Jira is backed by Atlassian software giant, whereas Monday.com is a public based company. Here are some key differences between the two:

Jira

  • Developed specifically for software development teams
  • Provides tools for agile project management, including sprint planning, agile reporting, and backlog management
  • Offers a wide range of integrations with other tools commonly used in software development, such as version control systems and continuous integration platforms

Monday

  • A more general-purpose project management tool that is used by teams in a variety of industries
  • Provides a visual, “board”-based interface for organizing tasks and projects
  • Offers a wide range of customization options, including the ability to create custom fields and workflows

Ultimately, the choice between Jira and Monday will depend on your specific needs and preferences. If you are a software development team looking for a tool that is specifically designed for agile project management, Jira may be a good choice. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more flexible and customizable tool that can be used for a variety of projects, Monday might be a better fit.

Personal opinion

I personally like Jira over Monday.com for managing software development. It’s more user friendly and inclined towards the management of software development. However, I feel like Monday.com is like Excel on steroids.
