Introducing Tern
Travel is an experience that sits high on most of our bucket lists. Yet, finding flights can be such a time-consuming ordeal. For a lot of us, when it comes to booking flights, we spend most of our time on a flight meta-search engine on a computer having to switch through multiple browser tabs to find a deal that matches our needs. If we choose to use one of these flight meta-search apps, it can be even more painful 😢.
So, you’re using the app’s funky user interface. You’ve found the flight. You want to buy it but then you’re redirected to the airlines not-so-funky website. You’re being upsold things you don’t need. You skip-skip-skip. You finally get to the checkout and either the session has timed out or, the price of your flight has gone up! 😭. Having personally travelled to over 20 countries in the past 2 years, I’ve found myself asking more often than not: Why isn’t this experience better?
A few months ago I wrote my first ever blog on how booking travel could be a whole lot simpler. I’m now excited to announce that I’m working on an app (with my co-founder, Shaq) that will hopefully solve the problems with booking travel that many of us face.
We’ve called our app ‘Tern’ after the adventurous bird — the Arctic Tern. Despite only weighing around 100 grams, no other animal in the world travels more than the Arctic Tern. In fact, during their lifetime, they cover around 1.25 million miles — the distance to go back to the Moon at least 3 times!
Tern uses the latest technology to process your requests. You can simply type or speak to Tern about flights you want then based on your user preferences and the nature of your request, Tern does the searching for you. The check-out experience is simple. With the data you provide in your user profile, you can pay directly through the app. No redirection to other sites.
