A look into a new week at FX1.

On This Day

So much can happen in 12 months when you’re in the startup zone.

On this day 1 year ago we launched our first event rooms, the place where you could see the live score and progress updates for sports games, as well as chat with other fans.

Like any feature a startup builds, you don’t know if they are going to work but you need to try.

Today, our website has far less functionality and the event rooms we worked so hard to build are memories of the past.

What we learned from having these rooms is that there is a place for secondary information and secondary experiences when watching a live game.

We used those learnings, as well as many more to get to where we are today.

App & AI Progress

Work continues every day to complete the functionality for our app which will aim to provide real-time stats for every UFC bout.

It’s hard to describe how much work is needed to build such an experience.

We’re building something new and unseen, and that brings so many unknowns and so many lessons on what not to do, and what to do differently.

We’re progressing though, we’re running tests every day and we’re starting to see the accuracy of our event detection which is not perfect but getting really good.

In a test of the Petr Yan vs Song Yadong bout, our AI tracked Song landing 87 strikes throughout the entire bout.

Official statistics provided by UFC had the count at 86.

Wow.

We still have work to do, there are certain fights where the stats are not as good, and we still have work to do when fights spend a long time on the ground.

But we’re progressing, we’re solving the challenges ahead of us.

It won’t be long until you experience it.

UFC 300 Predictions

In addition to building our apps functionality and all the machine learning event detection, we’re also using machine learning in a new way.

We have developed some prediction models and have trained it on tens of thousands of fighter and fight event properties, as well as fight history.

As a result we (or should I say, our AI?) have predictions for every fight on the UFC 300 card including the Main Card, the Preliminary Card, and the Early Prelims.

You’re not getting them yet, oh no.

We’ll be releasing these predictions in the upcoming FX1 Show which will air on YouTube next week on Thursday.

Make sure your there.

Wrapping Up

That’s it for another week.

Stay up to date and ensure you’re following us on social media to get the latest updates.

We would also love to hear from you, please make yourself known in the comments.
