Major New Fybrik Release

Version 0.1 of Fybrik was released as open source in stealth mode in Q2 2021, and version 0.4 was publicly announced in Q4 2021. Since then versions 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 have been released.

Today we are very proud to announce Fybrik version 1.0!

This major milestone marks a new level of stability and maturity, a commitment to begin supporting multiple API versions (backward compatibility), and the expansion of Fybrik to address IT infrastructure related non-functional requirements in addition to the data governance addressed in previous versions.

New Features

  • Soft policies — IT config policies that enable an IT admin to indicate how to optimize use of the infrastructure.

Example: Minimize storage costs for development workload, but for production workloads aim for minimum latency between the data and the workload without worrying about storage costs.

  • An optimizer that determines the optimal data path based on governance decisions, soft and hard IT config policies, workload context, and dataset context
  • Increased security between Fybrik manager and connectors. Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Mutual TLS are now supported for communications between the Fybrik manager and the data catalog and data governance policy connectors .

Backward Compatibility

Fybrik will start supporting multiple versions of its APIs, so there will be no need to delete and redeploy running processes when a new version is installed. Backward compatibility will support the two previous versions.

Please note: Fybrik version 1.0 does not provide backward compatibility to earlier versions.

Enhancements

  • Performance improvements
  • Documentation improvements
