What does the call propose?

Companies that wish to register must bear in mind that the Registry must respect the principles of non-discrimination and transparency. In addition, they must be non-profit entities.

The .eu domain is one of the largest, with 3.6 million registries. It serves not EU agencies and bodies on a government level. But is important to realiza that also many other companies and institutions use it as well.

Its objective is to provide a unitary sense of articulation between the EU and the Single European Market. In addition, it enables companies, organizations and individuals within the Union to register a domain name under.eu, regardless of their place of residence.

The essential purpose of the .eu TLD is to contribute to the development and consolidation of the identity of the EU. Another key point is to promote its values of multilingualism, respect for privacy, user safety, human rights. All this of course must be in line with the priorities specific to the EU in the digital environment.

Until now, who manages the EU domains?

Since its creation in 2005, is the EurIDthe company who has managed the .eu Top Level Domain Registry (TLD). On April 7th, 2006 they opened the .eu domain registries and the number of registrations at the end of the first day was one million

There have been several renewals of the contract with EurID, but this time the commission seems to be taking attracting other candidates very seriously.”
