The Zero Waste movement is one of the great trends of this 2020. Not even the impact of the coronavirus pandemic has managed to stop the advance of this lifestyle, which advocates reducing waste to a minimum.

Annually, according to the United Nations Environment Program, more than 11 billion tons of waste are generated in the world. Hence the relevance of promoting such projects and initiatives.

In several of our articles, we have discussed some approaches to this movement, which is committed to achieving a less consumerist world. With the philosophy of the 5Rs: Reject, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot, it defends life in a sustainable way. Discover some of those highlights of this movement in 2020.

Zero Waste Movement in 2020

Microsoft recycles your waste

Microsoft continues to be a leading technology company. In the middle of the year, in August it announced its commitment to this movement. The goal is to reach zero waste in Microsoft’s direct operations, products and packaging by 2030. For this, it has deployed a work organization chart that you can learn more about in this article.

To address the problem of our own generation of waste, Microsoft will reduce almost the same amount of waste that we generate and at the same time we will reuse, redirect or recycle our solid, compost, electronic, construction and demolition, and hazardous waste.

Nike and Adidas in favor of recycling

The big brands have become aware of what Zero Waste means. We dedicated an article to Nike in August about a shoe model that came out under the Move to Zero initiative. Under this umbrella, the sports shoe brand has presented other models. Visit their website if you want to learn more about, as they claim, “Nike’s journey towards zero carbon and zero waste to help protect the future of sport.”

On the other hand, the world famous Adidas also bet in this 2020 on recycling. The German brand predicted for this year that, for the first time, more than half of the polyester used in its products would come from recycled plastic waste. They also included producing a record 15 to 20 million pairs of shoes with plastic waste collected from beaches and coastal regions. In addition, they set a goal that starting in 2024 they would use recycled polyester only.

These are not the big brands that have joined the the movement. For this reason, the zero waste packaging market has also made headlines. Read our article on the subject to find out where the figures are moving.

FySelf and its Zero Waste approach

Our platform also has a Zero Waste approach. We believe in a world with technological development, but with a recycling mentality and with a paperless approach.

This concept is included among the causes that we defend, which are included in the Project for the Development of FySelf 2021. We advocate for saving and recycling, as guides to follow, for a healthier life.

At FySelf we defend digital technology with low waste generation. If you support a world with zero waste, join our efforts and review the volunteer program. We are counting on you to be part of the FySelf team.
