So, you want to make videos…

How many videos did you watch on social media this week? What are you binge watching on-demand right now? Did you record something from your phone and send it to a friend?

So many of us are watching videos or making them. The smart phone is a great gadget, perfect for on the fly, quick videos. But what if you wanted to make them better? To learn more? To use “real” equipment? And to edit them?

YOU CAN. If you’re a Fayetteville resident, student, or nonprofit — you can learn FOR FREE. Residents, students, and nonprofits in Washington or Benton Counties can learn for a $50 annual membership fee.

HOW? Through the City of Fayetteville’s Public Television (FPTV). FPTV offers hands-on basic and advanced classes in field production, studio production, and editing. Students can learn how to use video equipment; shooting, lighting, and audio techniques; as well as directing and producing. Once a student has completed required courses, equipment is made available for checkout along with use of the studio or editing rooms. Classes and the studio are located at the City of Fayetteville Television Center at 101 W. Rock Street. For more information about upcoming classes, visit the FPTV website at www.faypublic.tv or call 479–444–3433.

FPTV empowers community members to create their own programming, but also works with local individuals and organizations to produce locally focused original programming. Examples include a cooking show called Rooted in the Ozarks in partnership with Ozark Natural Foods, yoga shows featuring local yoga instructors, and The Interview show that highlights NWA community members. FPTV produces Later with Jason Suel, an acclaimed regional variety show that now airs regionally on Fox 24 every Saturday night at 9:30 p.m.

Your Media, is the City’s contracted third-party service provider for public access operation. They also teach the classes. FPTV is broadcast locally on Cox channel 218 and on AT&T U-verse channel 99. FPTV reaches national audiences through online streaming via its Livestream channel and offers video-on-demand content on the FPTV YouTube channel.
