Self-regulation is a vital and complex character strength. It is related to the ability to control our urges, emotions, and be able to regulate what we do.
This character strength increases our self-esteem, faith, and confidence that we are going to achieve our dreams and goals.
Self-regulation helps us understand and say “Enough is enough”.
Also, it increases our healthy habits, emotions, and impulses and at the same time allows us to be flexible in our everyday life.
Discipline is a big part of self-regulation. Moreover, it gives us balance about what we eat or drink and how often we do it.
Self-regulation focuses and develops our attention on our close relationships and on our loved ones, a candle flame, the movement of our body or our breathing.
The task is to return to the present moment and stay there.
Self regulation is a character strength which is strongly correlated with hope, honesty, prudence, perseverance, and zest.
