I’ve spent July in my home country, Lithuania. I returned to spend some time with family after an unfortunate event. This month I also became a Godmother, a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

Here are some cultural discoveries from July 2020…

1. Food for thought

This month I would like to start with a TED Talk from Tom Rivett Carnac. He speaks about how to shift our mindsets and choose the future that we want to live. Tom shares an example from one of the meetings that he was part from, from which, he and his colleague decided to move forward with the following solution to a problem:

This is Painful, but let’s approach this with love.

Tom talks about how stubborn optimism is a form of applied love. It can fill our lives with meaning and purpose. [17 mins]

2. Book: Let My People Go Surfing.

Written by the founder of Patagonia, this book looks at the importance of looking after two major resources of any company — the people that work there as well as the environment that we all live in. It’s refreshing take on doing good as a successful company and what might the future of work be.
Book Quotes available here.

Additional: In the Book, there is a mention about a Documentary that Patagonia have created with regards to Dam Nationa | The Problem with Hydropower [1h 28 mins] available here.

3. Creative Agency in Vilnius — Wide Wings

I love what this creative agency in Vilnius create. Their take on visual stories is refreshing, light-hearted and also with high quality. Here is a quick sample of one of their work about Lithuania’s capital.

4. Movie — Metropolis (1927)

Returning back home, also made me feel like watching old Black and White movies. Metropolis has always been on my list, but I only now got to watch the masterpiece. I spent 2h 30 mins admiring this movie from 1927 and enjoying the wonders of how the movies was made back in the day.

5. Music — Ennio Morricone

This month on 6th July, we lost Ennio Morricone, the author of one of the most amazing movie scores of all times — Cinema Padariso. Here are some highlights from his career.

Another Musical Highlight

Another musical highlight of the month is the release of the Visual Album by Beyonce. Electric, forward-moving, artistic and highlights that creativity will move us forward.

6. Art — Why is it so hard to love?

This month I felt very normal going back to the museum after the quarantine period. My sister and I went to visit the newly opened Modern Art Museum in Vilnius called MO. The Exhibition was about “Why is it so hard to love?” an exploration into various scenarios from collective of artists that worked together to put together this exhibition.
