Are Professional Athletes Overpaid?

Some people are of the opinion that professional athletes should be paid more; however, in our opinion, they are overpaid for a number of reasons. To start with, some may argue that athletes face the risk of being hurt during a game, hence it is reasonable for them to get paid more; however, there are many other death-defying careers, like firefighters, police officers, and soldiers; even though they maintain a stable society and save human lives, they are paid much less. On the other hand, what do athletes do? They primarily focus on entertaining people in their chosen discipline, and are not involved in saving lives. Second, professional athletes have been known to create their own brands which are usually sponsored by famous sports brands like NIKE. In this way, they earn a lot more money on the side; therefore, it is not necessary for them to be paid higher salary by their teams. Finally, some may claim that professional athletes represent our country at world competitions and are under extreme pressure, so they should be paid more; however, are you aware that even the lowest-paid male professional basketball player in the US makes around 100,000 dollars a year which is more than what the President makes? The President, who represents a whole country and is responsible for the people, actually has a more pressurizing job than that of a professional athlete. As a result, it is absurd to see the head of the country earn less than an athlete. Based on all the reasons stated above, we strongly believe that professional athletes get paid too much.
