Mike Parra is a UX Designer from Dallas, TX, whose UX portfolio is thoughtfully designed with C.R.A.P (contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity) in mind. Parra’s use of C.R.A.P creates a clean portfolio that is easy to follow and a delight to explore.

Contrast

The clean greyscale and white design create contrast that make color pop off the page when using it to emphasize important features of his portfolio. By featuring his past work as the largest and brightest image on the main page, the user’s eye goes right to it. Parra also uses contrasting color pops of yellow to create interactivity with the “What I Do” section as the user hovers over the icons.

Repetition

Parra’s portfolio has a comfortable repetition between the pages where the color scheme, fonts, and hierarchies of the pages are consistent. The only page that slightly differs in the layout is his portfolio. His portfolio page has a large image featured with his most recent work instead of a heading. Repetition is also used throughout his portfolio in consistent structuring of headings and paragraphs, and coloring links red.

Alignment

The portfolio is aligned in three columns throughout the portfolio. Sometimes the featured image or text takes up the entire width of the three columns. Other times a small grid is created by arranging images in the columns into aligning rows.

Proximity

Proximity is used to create grouping of related content. Under “What I do” his listed strengths are closely stacked on their descriptions making it easy to understand the copy underneath is an explanation. The past work on the main page is also grouped close in proximity to differentiate it from the above “What I Do” section.

C.R.A.P in Parra’s portfolio make it easy for a user to understand what is important, what is related, and to enjoy the process of exploring his portfolio.
