In this film, “Amazing Grace: The story of a song that makes a difference”, many people speak about the story of the song by John Newton from the very beginning. The music is performed in ther Persih of Onley in England (I believe).

Some never thought the song would have mass popular appeal, but in the 1970s it began to take off. People found hope in the song and especailly that it was written by a man who had a wreched life but the song was so beautiful and so heart felt. The music sounds like an anthem. The very slow, drawn out notes portray a solum, heart felt importance of the hymn. It is depicted as a song that heals and that can pull you out of the deepest darkness. There is a power of reconcilliation in the song throught the combination of the lyrics, the tune, and the melody. Soem beleive that the word “grace” means “forgiven”, and that idea helped those who listened to the hymn to have patience with one another and stay commited to one another through forgivness

There are also many differnt versions of the song due to gerography and changes over time. The melody can be changed up in mnay variations. And example is that in the sound the melody is sang differently, something not everyone can do, which makes it special to the South. There is even a way shown where it was a call and repeat. The leader sings “amaze” the rest of the group sings “amaze” then the leader sings “ing grace” and then the group repeats.

What stood out most to me about this film is how deeply everyone felt about the hymn. It seemed as though people could talk about it for hours and how it touched them and the others around them and the way it affected the community. The amount of joy that eludes from this song is beyond touching. Seeing the people in this film come together and sing as a community and be together is truly something special.
