The most popular mobile phone browsers country by country

I recently discovered a blog post that compiled the statistics for mobile phone and tablet web browser usage from more than 70 countries around the world. The data is fascinating, but it didn’t exactly come to life, so I was inspired to create an infographic which hopefully turns the information into insight. If nothing else, I can promise it’s very colourful.

Here in the UK, Safari — the mobile web browser that comes built-in with every iPhone and iPad — is at the top of the tree with 61.44% of traffic compared to 58% in the US, where Safari is also No.1. But Google’s browser, Chrome, is significantly more popular in the US than the UK with 31.15% of US traffic compared to only 25.18% over here.

The real revelation for a Westerner is when you look at the stats for India, where Safari is down at No.3 with only 11.92%. That paints a picture of a very, very different mobile internet, where Chrome has 46.58% of the marketplace and the Android Browser has another 18.41%, giving Google a very impressive total of 64.99%.

Needless to say, these statistics tell us what we already know, that it will take an epic, empire-beating upheaval for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Blackberry and Opera to be able to compete with the big boys any time soon.

The full infographic featuring stats from Europe, Asia Pacific, The Americas, the Middle East and Africa can be found at the Gadget Lab website. Please share...
