Avoidance Behaviors

Today I’m avoiding adulting
Although I see problems resulting.
I should do my laundry
And this is my quandary
I can’t go out smelling insulting.

Yet, off to the laundry I trudge
To do things I think are a drudge.
I’ll wash out my clothing
Preventing the loathing
Of sox that congeal into sludge.

This whole week

I didn’t want to face the reality of having to do laundry.

A common feeling of mine is a desire to avoid or postpone mundane tasks when it is more enjoyable to compose.

“I love when I wash a tissue with the laundry … said no one ever” — Laundry quotes

Who else feels this way?

Do others feel the same way about certain chores. This could be a common feeling.

I prefer creative or engaging activities, like writing limericks. However, the Practical Pig (from the story of the three Little Pigs) instructs me to find a balance between enjoyable activities and responsibilities like household chores.

Procrastinating or avoiding necessary tasks for too long gives me stress and long run discomfort.

My inner voice.

My inner Practical Pig says to consider ways to make the task of doing laundry more manageable, such as breaking it into smaller steps, setting a schedule, or finding ways to make it more enjoyable, like listening to music or audiobooks while doing it.

Heck, I can get into trouble anywhere. On my cell phone I set “Notifications” to whistle. With my phone in my pocket at the laundry, where truckers do their long-haul laundry, my phone whistled, “Ta-weet, ta’-whooo!” This made some of them look my way, as in “How disrespectful!”

I went out and sat in my pickup and reset “Notifications” to chime politely.

“Ultimately, it’s normal to have tasks we’d rather not face, but finding strategies to deal with them can help maintain a balanced and organized life,” said my inner Practical Pig. In Texas, we think barbecue.
