Efficiency is one of the most important stats for a high-performance athlete, and it’s no different for a normal student.

What if you could get those numbers after every training session or tournament? What is your ratio of submissions set up to submissions that actually work?

Fine Adjustments for Basic Submissions

Unfortunately, in today’s world we still don’t have that resource available for the BJJ market — to my knowledge, anyway, — but consider it a free idea for anyone willing to work on a solution.

If you had that number, what would your effectiveness rate be? One percent? Maybe fifty? Whatever it is, increasing it would be the best scenario, because that means that whenever you reached a position of advantage, your chances of finishing would be better.

That’s why adjustments for submissions — especially basic ones — must be taken seriously. These submissions are the most frequent ones in daily training, and with each unsuccessful attempt, another instance of frustration arises and the roll/match can slide into disadvantageous territory.

A choke locked in place is not always enough to beat a tough opponent. To make sure your play results in a win, you must apply technique, intensity and resistance.

With this problem as a starting point, we created a special program focused on efficiency for students of Renzo Gracie Online Academy, titled Fine Adjustments for Basic Submissions. Instructor Leandro Slaib shares all of his knowledge about the little things that make a submission successful.

The complete lesson plan includes the following lessons:

Adjustment details for the omoplata

Finishing the omoplata when the opponent postures

From the omoplata to the armbar

Triangle adjustments

More triangle adjustments

Adjustment details for the armbar

Armbar adjustment variation

Choke from the back

Choke from the mount

A variation on the choke from the mount

Lastly, if you identified with the problem described and want to increase your efficiency in training, click the following link and learn more about the program we just launched:
