The moment you hear Noe Venable’s voice, you’re immediately put at ease. She just has that sort of presence. With an extensive background as a singer and songwriter, plus an erstwhile student of the world’s spiritual traditions, and eight years as a Waldorf-trained educator, Noe’s classes at San Francisco-based Meadowlark Music are one of a kind.

Meadowlark’s activities are as much for the parent as they are for the kids. They sing Waldorf-inspired songs, sure, but they also do a few tunes for grown-ups too. A class for all families, though certainly one the more crunchy –er… nature-loving amongst us will gravitate toward, your time spent with Meadowlark will include songs, poems, and chants, play-along instruments, Waldorf-inspired puppetry and more.

As a new mom, Noe yearned for a connection with fellow parents, but every class she brought her toddler son to was overstimulating for him. She decided to start a group focused less on entertaining little ones and more on listening to them. As her group grew she noticed it became just as strongly about the adults connecting with one another as it was about teaching music to kids.

“We all really love being in a space that encourages authentic connection between us as parents — one that’s really nurturing (not just entertaining) for children as well as soulful,” says Noe. “So I took everything I had learned from my life experience, Waldorf, and these groups and poured it into creating a music class that met my needs.”

Turns out she wasn’t the only one with those specific needs, Meadowlark Music is amongst the most popular offerings on Galore. Of which, Noe says, “Galore has been the best thing for my offerings. It’s been incredible how adventurous, curious, excited to try something new the community is.”

What’s next for Meadowlark? “In the future I want to continue to grow as a resource for families as a way to bring more music-making into their lives on a day-to-day basis.” answers Noe. She’s well on her way to that goal with free downloadable music already available on her site.
