Galoy announces Bitcoin and Lightning Network summit in El Salvador
San Salvador, September 1, 2021 Galoy, the Bitcoin banking solution for companies and communities, announced today that “Adopting Bitcoin — A Lightning Summit in El Salvador” will be held in San Salvador and El Zonte from November 16 to 18, 2021. This three-day conference will bring Bitcoin and Lightning Network developers and educators together with civil society, businesses and institutions in El Salvador. The ultimate goal is to foster a successful adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender in the Central American country.
Background
On June 8, 2021, the legislative assembly of the Republic of El Salvador followed through on the prior announcement of President Bukele, and passed “La Ley Bitcoin” (The Bitcoin Law). The promulgation of the law on September 7 will mark a sensational first for both El Salvador and the Bitcoin Network.
In the weeks following the announcement, developers and educators from the global Bitcoin community visited El Salvador and the town of El Zonte, also known as “Bitcoin Beach”. They spoke with local Bitcoiners, civil society and businesses to understand the challenges on the path to Bitcoin adoption in the country. It is based on this feedback that the Bitcoin community will convene in El Salvador, and work towards real results during the conference.
