Duty Calls/January’s Top 10 Video Games
Microsoft, Activision, and Blizzard walk into a bar…
As if it’s here to stay, just like an insufferable long cold, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III claims the number one spot for its third consecutive month.
Why it matters: Call of Duty is a massive franchise with deep roots in the gaming ecosystem and a longevity that’s inarguably unmatched by its contemporaries.
The franchise is a leader in the first-person shooter genre and, at this point, is a money-printing machine for Activision Blizzard (now owned by Microsoft), as all of the games have sold millions of copies.
With so many milestones, including being in the Guinness World Record as the best-selling first-person shooter video game series, a worthy standalone free-to-play battle royale game that is Call of Duty: Warzone to rival Fortnite, and with no signs of slowing down, it’s no wonder Microsoft wouldn’t back down from the fight to acquire the mega-publisher.
Even with the negative press that COD: MWIII has received, it just goes to show that diehard COD fans will still show up for their favourite boots-on-the-ground military shooter, no matter what.
