Game LAB ™ brings together students, creators and professionals to teach, conduct research, and develop new approaches for creating video games. Our mission is to explore and educate through interactive workshops, trainings and seminars.
We’ve already reached our 2nd edition, so we can tell you a little about what you can experience during these months of Game LAB:
1. The sense of community

These right words of McMillan describe a part of our experience and what kind of magic can projects like ours do. When people are gathered by the same passions, they can expand and shape their ideas. Just like in the actual video games, where players work together in teams to achieve goals or compete against other players. At Game Lab family, you will have the chance to connect with the other members and learn from the professionals in this industry.
2. The high-quality information
Oulu Game Lab is a unique training and development program tailored to meet the needs of the gaming industry. Being based on this Finnish model, we try to keep up with their quality of work and bring here equally-prepared approaches. 10 of the best professionals will be there to mentor and teach you your way to the gaming industry, backed up by years of experience in every area. We have prepared a timetable that explores all corners of gaming industry, from design to development, from pitching to business, and so on. Game Lab gathers the most relevant and fresh information, all in one place. With a successful edition behind us, our methods are proven to be well appreciated and capable to bring out the best in our participants.
3. Innovative references
The gaming industry is a fast-moving one and so are its requirements. In nearly all aspects of digital interface, the evolution of technology is proving its potential to change the way we solve problems and how humans generally see the world in which they live. This has a huge impact on video games also. New gaming genres, massive improvements to game play and graphics, and exciting new story lines and experiences are part of this modern day video game scene. Due to their field of work, our mentors can provide you with powerful insights and make you understand better all the innovative prospects that come with them.
4. You can join us for free (on Easy Mode)
Time is money, so when you have the chance to do things for free, you’d better not waste it. Especially when it’s about something that will only add value and knowledge to your life.
5. Collaborative creativity
Working on the same projects and being around the same colleagues can stop you from seeing things differently. And sometimes different can mean more creative. Like the way Game LAB can make you see them. When put in a team with members that have the same goals as you but have been exposed to different ways of doing things, that’s when creativity is born- through this diversity. Awesome ideas can rise, and with the help of our mentors, they can be coordinated smoothly.
