5 games everyone must play on Apple’s new gaming platform

It’s official: I have joined the modern age.

Last week I bought an IPhone 11 and have officially set aside my ancient Android ways. As I dove into my new phone and all of it’s incredible features, I remembered all of the talk I’ve been hearing about Apple Arcade. It’s Apple’s subscription game service, filled with not only exclusives but also some mobile classics that everyone should play.

With a full battery and some time to kill, I decided to leap into Arcade’s library and climb out with the very best games to share with you. Whether it’s colorful adventures or weirdo golfing games, Apple Arcade has something to offer everyone.

Sayonara Wild Hearts

This is probably the most famous game on Apple Arcade, and for very good reason. It’s a pulse-pounding and beautiful ride that should be your very first stop on this platform. Though the game play is simple, the catchy music and the short levels will 100% capture your attention. Sayonara Wild Hearts is a wild and beautiful ride that has some powerful things to say.

Grindstone

As much as I love Sayonara, Grindstone may be my favorite game I’ve played on Apple Arcade. It’s an addicting color match game (like Bejeweled or the like) but this time it’s a violent Viking that you can upgrade to have certain abilities. Initially simple, but this game has been challenging me for a little while now.

Cricket Through the Ages

Probably the weirdest game on this list by a long shot. It’s a physics based combat game where you sloppily lob cricket balls and other items at your opponents. Cricket Through the Ages may not have the depth of some of these other games, but for pure fun it may be unrivaled.

What the Golf

What the golf indeed. In this simple little golf game, you will putt everything from the standard golf balls to cows (for some reason?). These golf games are basically puzzles where the mode and mechanics of each round shift and goof about. The catchy tunes and sound effects make each weird swing a delight. What the golf indeed!

Cardpocalypse

If you know me at all, you know I’m a sucker for a card game. And for the last game on this list, we’re going straight for the ‘90’s feels. Cardpocalypse is a collectible card game set on a kid’s first day at a new school. The card game at it’s center (Mega Mutant Power Pets!) is a mix of Magic: the Gathering and Hearthstone. As you meet new friends/enemies and build new decks, you’ll experience a heart-warming and hilarious story.

There you have it. Apple Arcade is a sterling platform with tons of variety. I’m curious to see how it evolves over the coming months and years. What do you plan on playing first?
