An Ode to my Favorite ‘Bad’ Gun from D2
I’ve fallen back into Destiny 2. After playing through Beyond Light — the newest expansion — and exploring most of what Season of the Chosen has on offer, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about inventory.
And I feel like that’s a lot of what Destiny 2 is at its core. It is a looter shooter of course, but the rapid inventory management and constant thought about said movement occupies my mind whenever I warp down into the Tower. Think about it: we carry several weapons in each slot. We carry our favorites. We carry weapons for certain mission types and modes. We hold on to versatile Exotics and switch our Auto Rifle over to a Pulse Rifle when Banshee-44’s bounties demand it.
I’m referring to myself here as well. I carry way to many guns. I clean out my inventory pretty regularly, but new drops fill up those gleaming slots pretty quickly. Because of this, I think about each weapon carefully. I always carry Graviton Lance. It’s one of my favorite weapons in the game. I’ve carried Ticuu’s Divination all Season due to the bounties constantly asking for Solar kills. But the other gun that never leaves my inventory is none other than Sweet Business.
It’s an auto rifle that essentially becomes a Gatling gun. That’s the hook. That’s the aforementioned sweet business. It has an enormous magazine and fires 360 rounds per minute. When you hold down the trigger, the gun takes a second to warm up. Once it does though, you can shred any ads that get in your way.
The Name Says it All
Why do I love Sweet Business? What is it about this wild mess of a gun that draws me in? I chalk it up to a few things. Number one: it just feels good to use. Destiny 2’s longevity is due to Bungie’s ability to make guns feel as good as they sound. The wind-up into full auto is a sound that always makes me smile (especially as I grab an entire handful of critical hits). I like the sights on the weapon, even if it fires just as well from the hip. Number two: It’s a house in Gambit. It’s my main weapon in the game mode — which also happens to be my favorite thing to do in Destiny 2 — because of it’s ability to handle a scattering group of ads with such ease. It hits hard and helps me clear any more difficult enemies that I happen to spot lurking.
I wrote this ode to Sweet Business because the weapon is severely under-loved. Blueberries.gg slammed it into C-tier(Weak) on their seasonal ranking! An article from Business Outsider in 2019 ranked it 43rd out of 48th, just narrowly beating out the silly Skyburner’s Oath. This is an outrage! A travesty! I demand revenge! I demand that this great disservice be rectified lest I — —
*deep breath*
…I Love My Job.
I’m calming down. I know what you’re thinking: what’s wrong with this guy!? What kind of ridiculous claim it this? I’m no fool. I’m aware that the gun is not top tier. I don’t think it deserves to be considered one of the best Exotic weapons in Destiny 2. I would never dream of that, because it’s clearly not. But the next time you decide to drop into a Gambit match, pull Sweet Business from the Vault and blow the dust off to uncover its silver sheen. Kill Fallen. Wreck some Vex. Send the Cabal packing.
