How is it already September?

These last few months — brutally hot and busy in a way that kills my spirit — have left me feeling behind in just about every way. My writing has floundered. Outside of Game Loot (in my fiction writing) I’ve had some story acceptances, but new writing hasn’t really been happening. I missed my monthly post for August on here as well; I couldn’t muster the strength to really put anything together.

As those last days of August clamped shut, I decided to do a little something about that. I sat down with my bullet journal and outlined some plans. The first was this article. The second (and this is a bit of an announcement) will be for November to be dedicated to Pokémon here at Game Loot. One article a week! But more to come on that.

I wanted to get myself fired back up. To get the creative wheels rolling. It’s not just my writing that’s been lagging behind; I’ve been a bit slow beating games this year. In 2020, I beat 35. In 2021, I dipped a bit to 28. It’s September 12th and my current number for 2022 is resting at 19. Each time I do this I can’t help but wonder: what’s my average number? What’s an acceptable number of games to finish in a year? My guess must be somewhere between 25–30. We’ll circle back to that later.
