Some of my favorite things in games are in the background. The design details within the level. The paintings on the walls, the books on the shelves, the typewriters on the desks. As a writer, I gravitate to them for some reason. I realized while playing through Deathloop that I kept taking pictures of every typewriter I saw in the (great) game.

So in the spirit of The Video Game Soda Machine Project (which is super cool and deserves your love) welcome to The Video Game Typewriter Collection! Sponsored by Game Loot, and updated as the games get played!

Call of Cthulhu (2018): taken during an office-centric dream sequence.

Bioshock Remastered (2016): on an otherwise empty desk, in the Splicer-filled walls of Rapture.

Resident Evil Village (2021): A dark cabin, a werewolf infested village, an empty page on display.

Deathloop (2021): On Blackreef, glistening with inter dimensional power. The most handsome typewriter in the collection? The best color for sure.

Alan Wake Remastered (2021): A gift from Alice Wake that he does not take very well. Not sure why… All video game writers need a typewriter.

Death’s Door (2021): Some manned, others not. Paperwork is vital for soul collection, so these birds remain hard at work.

Dying Light 2 Become Human (2022): A woman and her typewriter, stashed away near UV lights. This is a nice blue model. Pretty heavy by the looks of it. Could be useful to brain a zombie with?

Far Cry 6 (2021): At the end of a lengthy Yaran story (and after 45 hours) I found this weird little typewriter in the back of a large building. Everybody but this guy have moved on to computers. He’s getting it analog as his country falls apart.

Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020): Very early into this horror-action-survival remake. This one has a coffee cup (with saucer!) beside it. A good place to save.

Call of Duty: WW2 (2017): This typewriter is deep within a Nazi hideout. No one at the station currently, but some cigarette butts show that this desk is in use.

Save Room (2022): Our first menu located typewriter. Judging by how much Save Room loves Resident Evil, the typewriter may just be the most important item in the titular Save Room.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (2020): A writer’s office in this writer’s Animal Crossing home.

L.A. Noire (2011): An action shot of the station. Two typewriters for the price of Cole.

Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023): Per The Video Game Typewriter Collection rules, the first typewriter in a Resident Evil game goes in. This time: saving by candlelight.

Alone in the Dark Prologue (2023): Let this be a warning to you Cassandra: typewriters in gaming demos also count.
