Columbia Fireflies- Nickie Blue
Nickie Blue recently graduated in May 2017 with a degree in Sports Management and Entertainment with a minor in business. Blue was also a key member of the softball team at South Carolina. Not only was she one of South Carolina’s top pitchers but she also had the academics as well. Blue was named to South Carolina’s academic honor roll multiple times and was named NFCA scholar athlete multiple times as well.
Blue is currently interning with the MiLB team Columbia Fireflies. The team plays out of Spirit Communications Park. Blue has many jobs working with the Fireflies which has allowed her to gain a lot of experience from various departments. She is working directly with the Director of Group Sales for the Columbia Fireflies, Kaylee Swanson. Blue has been working with ticketing most consistently focusing on getting the tickets where they need to be, selling tickets in advance or on game days, and then in Will Call during the games. She has sat in on some meetings and phone calls to see how everything is set up behind the scenes.
Blue’s main career goal in life is to work with special events or be the event manager of a venue. The dream goal would be to work with event management for the Denver Broncos in her home state of Colorado.
Overall, Blue explains how this internship is helping her gain the experience that she needs. She is able to work with a variety of departments which is helping her figure out what she is interested in and what she’s not interested in. With sports being such a big part of Blue’s life this internship is her first work experience. Blue wants to gain as much knowledge as she can so she can figure out the rest of her career path.
Blue is a very smart and determined girl as she was on the field and will have no problem seeking out her dreams.
