TITI TAKES INDOOR 200M WORLD LEAD AFTER HISTORIC WEEKEND PERFORMANCE

University of South Carolina track & field senior Ncincilili Titinow holds the fastest indoor 200m time in the world this season, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations. Titi ran his world-leading time of 20.45 Saturday in Clemson, S.C., and the mark topped the international leaderboard released Monday by the IAAF.

Titi’s performance has historical ramifications beyond just this season. It’s the second-fastest indoor 200m time achieved by an African sprinter in world history, trailing only the world record of 19.92 run by Namibia’s Frank Fredericks in 1996. It’s also the second-fastest indoor mark in Carolina history, behind the 20.38 of Rodney Martin, achieved in 20.38.

A six-time All-American out of Butterworth, South Africa, Titi has big ambitions for the 2018 NCAA season. Prior to the start of the campaign, he was ranked as the top collegiate 200m sprinter in the NCAA by FloTrack, while the USTFCCCA’s event rankings place him third in the nation.
