As our latest newsletter explained, we issued a mandatory network update. This update will resolve network instability and eventually allow for many exciting network improvements (like segwit activation, atomic swaps, and hardware wallet integration).

However, we understand that many of you may need help updating your wallet. So below are instructions regarding how to safely perform this update.

STEP 1: Create a backup of your wallet.dat file

Open the wallet application, and click file in the upper left hand corner. Next click backup wallet. You will then be prompted to save your wallet.dat file to your location of choice. We recommend creating multiple saves of this file, perhaps on multiple flashdrives.

This wallet.dat file contains your public/private keys, and can be easily imported into the new Core/QT wallet you must download from the links below. If for whatever reason you have issues updating your wallet or anything goes wrong, your wallet.dat file is all you need retrieve your coins.

STEP 2: Download the updated wallet file.

After saving your wallet.dat file you can download the updated wallet file. Below are the download links for Windows/Mac/Linux. When the wallet downloads, click on the installer provided in the download. When the installer launches follow the steps provided.

Win 64 Version: https://github.com/gamecredits-project/GameCredits/releases/download/0.15.2/gamecredits-0.15.2-win64.zip

Mac Version: https://github.com/gamecredits-project/GameCredits/releases/download/0.15.2/gamecredits-0.15.2-osx-unsigned.dmg

Linux Version: https://github.com/gamecredits-project/GameCredits/releases/download/0.15.2/gamecredits-0.15.2.tar.gz

For the linux version you may need to add this dependency:

sudo apt install libdb++-dev libqrencode-dev libboost1.58-all-dev

STEP 3: Select a Data Directory

After the installation, you will be asked to select a data directory (which can be found in your GameCredits folder on your hard drive). If you have a version of the QT wallet, select the existing data directory you had downloaded previously so you don’t have to redownload the whole blockchain. If you haven’t downloaded the QT wallet before, simply choose the location in which to save your new data directory.
