Short Games Are Sometimes the Most Exciting Ones

February 2022 Newsletter by Gameful Life

Have you ever wondered why February is such a short month?

I recently did and did a quick search online and found the following quirky reason for that:

“Because Romans believed even numbers to be unlucky, each month had an odd number of days, which alternated between 29 and 31. But, in order to reach 355 days, one month had to be an even number. February was chosen to be the unlucky month with 28 days.” — “Why does February has 28 days?”, Children’s Museum Indianapolis

I had to chuckle at that and enjoyed reading the article with the quote above.

The shortness of this month reminded me of my short self-motivational games. They are not better or worse than the long — and as I love calling them “epic” — games. Those short games are often as epic in their effect on me as the long ones (see, for example, the Instead of Game). They are not better or worse; they are just different.

The same happened to my writing this month. Since the January Newsletter, I have published five articles and only two in Gameful Life. Other of my publications, except for Gameful Life and S1000D Implementation Map, hadn’t seen any new articles since the last newsletter.

Yes, this month’s digest is short, but it is not less meaningful than the projects and commitments that took the other part of my time this month. They are just different — and hugely so.

I don’t know whether my digests for the coming months this year will be longer or shorter than this one. Who knows? What I know is that I enjoy the collection of my self-motivational games right now. Thus, I enjoy my life with all its edges, colors, and dynamics.

I don’t enjoy it continually, and I grumble about one or another project or activity game almost daily. But even those grumbles are gameful ones, usually very short, and are a part of my gameful experience of life.

So, here are the two articles listed in the order of their publication date. I hope you enjoy reading them.

Before we say our goodbyes, let me mention the following. If you want to hear from me above this newsletter, I invite you to subscribe to my mailing list here. You can find out where else you can follow or contact me on my contact page.
