The Illusions and Truths about the Holidays

April 2022 Newsletter by Gameful Life

April is told to be a temperamental month. It may be not as temperamental as May, but still.

For me, it’s been temperamental because of the mixture of many commitments at work and the Easter break in-between.

During this break, I had an epiphany. I realized I had the illusion that holidays are generally without stress and are filled only with relaxation. That was, of course, not the case, even if this holiday break, like many others I had over the years, was extremely recharging, relaxing, and empowering.

However relaxing it was, there were moments that I regarded as stressful. These were, for example, choices to make or agree with others on what to do next, too much quiet when left alone upon my wish, too little quiet when spent with others (also upon my initial wish), too much relaxation, too little to do, too cold, too warm, too much sun, too little sun, etc. You get the picture.

It was a blessing to see these illusions suddenly in clear spring light. This epiphany also meant that my work-life was not full of only stressful moments as I sometimes think, but has also relaxing and recharging moments. It is up to me how I see, design, and approach them.

Thanks to vacation and busy work life, I was relaxed about writing and enjoyed putting the two articles listed below together.

But before I give you the links to the articles, here is another resource that might interest you.

In the previous Gameful Life Newsletter in March, I invited you to join me at this year's Gamification Europe conference. It took place online and was incredibly insightful, inspiring, and fun.

Fortunately, you can watch many contributions to these and other Gamification Europe forums on their YouTube channel here.

If you are interested in watching my presentation and the panel I participated in, check out this video toward the end (around the time stamp 5:15:00).

Feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any about the articles below or about my contributions to Gamification Europe 2022.

Thank you very much for your interest and support for Gameful Life and my other publications! It means a lot to me.

Have a beautiful, exciting, peaceful, and gameful May 2022!

With best wishes,
