We’re now back to a more peaceful period, during the League of Legends competition. On the European stage, the quarantine lead to a change of organization, and after a whole week got cancelled, LEC finally took place online. Teams fought from home for the place of the Spring Split Winner, as Finals in Budapest got cancelled too. No spoiler but G2 Esports won the title of Champions against Fnatic. Far from being a simple victory, both G2 and Fnatic gained equal victories, with 7 titles each. You maybe heard this news (as well as the cancellation of the MSI), and we wrote this recap for you, with all the victories of each team.

Fnatic scoreboard

Fnatic victories

Fnatic (FNC) is older than G2, as it was founded in 2011. The same year, FNC won Worlds of LoL Season 1, facing Against All Authority. Now a reference brand in the esports merch, Fnatic is everywhere and it is almost impossible not to know them on the esport stage. In 2016, the team went through a harsh season, finishing in sixth place. The next year, Rekkles’ team climbed the ladder and ended in 3rd position, before winning both Spring and Summer in 2018. But these past two years, in 2019 and 2020, G2 fought to keep their Champion title and Fnatic had to be satisfied with the 3rd then 2nd place.

Beyond the European stage, Fnatic achieved to reach Worlds 2018 Finals against Invictus Gaming, who won 3–0. This defeat is very hard for FNC, but their name will be forever remembered.

G2 Esports scoreboard

G2 Esports victories

G2 was born in 2014, called Gamers2, before being renamed G2 Esports after they qualified in EULCS late 2015. They arrived for the first time on the Esport stage in 2016. Big splash as they won Spring and Summer, and again in 2017. Enough to scare other teams, especially Fnatic who saw them as a dangerous obstacle to their victory. FNC do not let themselves be defeated in 2018, claiming their title back, before G2 took over the victory in 2019 and 2020.

The best year for G2 was 2019, when they were close to reach the Grand Slam. Unfortunately, they lost the Worlds Finals in Paris 0–3 against FunPlus Phoenix. Winners in Spring and Summer, beating Team Liquid at MSI, nothing scares G2, not even Faker and his team SKT T1, or Uzi and RNG. Their defeat in Worlds 2019 was a precious experience, and after a tricky start during Spring Playoffs 2020, a few weeks ago, they finally won. Moreover, they registered their 7th victory in quarantine, from their Gaming House, in Pikachu pyjamas.. What’s left to ask..

Chance to young

Fnatic and G2 account for 7 victories EULCS/LEC list. Even if the samouraïs seem off to a good start this year 2020, Fnatic have already shown in the past that they could come back strong. On the playstyle side, both teams are completely different. G2 surprise, they are showmen who play unlikely picks, on lanes these champions were not made for, but after all, ‘if you don’t take a chance, nothing happens’. Fnatic are more traditional players, they prefer to stay in an operational meta to counter G2, sometimes playing comfort picks.

These two teams are the pride of all Europe and they offer us, again and again great show and high level confrontation, to determine which of the two is the real best team in Europe !

In the meantime, see you all in the Rift !
