A recent survey by Gameloft, in partnership with Leger, shows that there are significant differences between the gaming habits of Quebecers and those of other Canadians.

Montreal, November 13, 2019 — On the eve of MEGA+MIGS (which is taking place from November 16 to 19), Gameloft Montreal, the largest mobile-gaming studio in Quebec, wanted to take this opportunity to delve into Canadians’ video-gaming habits.

Quebec, truly a hub for the gaming industry, also seems to be home to a large number of gamers. In fact, while only a third of Canadians regularly play video games, the proportion of gamers in la Belle Province is 41%, nearly 10% more than in the rest of the country. And yet, coast to coast, certain trends are consistent: The video-game industry — and mobile gaming in particular — continues to experience strong growth. Incidentally, nearly seven out of ten Canadian gamers (68%) play on mobile devices, which is more than any other platform.

According to Matthieu Dupont, manager of Gameloft Montreal, “As a leader in the mobile-gaming industry for what will soon be 20 years, Gameloft has learned how to evolve with players’ consumer habits. We’re proud to have contributed over the years to the rise of this new form of gaming. Today, we’re doubling down on our efforts to create innovative experiences for our players, all while continuing to raise the bar for the whole industry. We continue to anticipate strong growth for mobile gaming in the coming years.”

Night Owls

The study also shows that players are especially active in the evening (61%), moreso than at night (28%) or in the afternoon (28%). There’s also a divergence in these nocturnal habits: More Quebecers game in the evening (72%), while other Canadians spend more time gaming at night (34% compared to only 13% in Quebec).

All-Terrain Gamers

While at one time you needed to have some patience in waiting rooms, while in transit, and in the bathroom, mobile devices have been real game-changers. Nearly a quarter of respondents (24%) use this downtime to game. As a matter of fact, 11% of those surveyed admitted that the bathroom was a favourite spot for gaming.

MEGA+MIGS

Gameloft Montreal will be at MEGA+MIGS (booth #1242), a four-day convention bringing together industry professionals and members of the public. For the occasion, the studio will have a vintage theme to evoke its founding in the early aughts, and will invite visitors to meet the recruitment teams.

For this study, an online omnibus survey was conducted using a representative sample of 2,598 Canadians, speaking French or English and aged 18 or older. The data was collected from October 4 to October 9, 2019.
