Zenith Mobile Consumption Study — Mobile Still On The Rise
A new report by Zenith has found that mobile will account for 24% of global media consumption this year. According to the study, the figure was just 5% in 2011, but by 2020 it’s expected to rise to 28%.
The report focuses on the benefits of mobile for brands, and how it can be used as a powerful tool for building awareness and engaging more directly with audiences.
Now more than ever, we are seeing mobile rise as the leading communication platform. Zenith reports that time spent consuming TV and radio has decreased by 3% and 5% respectively in the past year, with print media dropping a whopping 45% since 2011.
It’s time we started to acknowledge the figures that are staring us in the face. For brands, mobile should be viewed as an effective and engaging media channel afforded the same space and recognition as TV, cinema and out of home.
At Gameloft, we know just how lucrative tapping into the mobile market can be. In the mobile gaming space alone, global revenue in 2017 was $50.4 billion (Newzoo, Jan 2018), which is higher than the year’s global box office revenue. Hollywood, eat your heart out.
You only need to glance around a crowded train or busy street to recognise that people are constantly engaging with their mobile devices. Zenith’s report, therefore, comes as no surprise. What is surprising is the number of brands and businesses yet to give mobile the prominence it deserves on their media roster.
As mobile media consumption continues to grow, make sure you’re not getting left behind.
