Drew Parks Creates Dramatic and Dynamic Visual Landscapes
A professional portfolio packed with surreal soundscape animations, complex procedural cityscapes, and unique visual experiences.
As a primitive stone age artist myself, I have a deep respect for the wizards who are capable of using programs like Houdini to create art. For whatever reason, my brain treats using 3D-design programs the same way it treats math — which is to say, I get mad and have to take a break to go touch paper.
Suffice to say, artworks like this will always capture my interest and attention.
Drew Parks is an experienced artist with a broad skillset, and proficiencies with programs for modeling, procedural systems, and VFX, amongst others. These skills are demonstrated across the portfolio, as Parks has worked with companies like Sony to produce visuals for their advertisement campaigns. I highly recommend taking a second to watch some of the visuals produced for electronic artist Manic Focus, as these really demonstrate Parks’ capabilities in a way I can’t explain with words; in particular, this one of hot air balloons floating placidly above an undulating plain is an experience.
According to LinkedIn, Parks holds a BFA from the University of Illinois Chicago, and has been a working artist in the digital design field for over a decade. He is currently employed full-time for Meta.
This week, I think I’ve been reminded of the breadth of information that I don’t know. I will never get better at things I don’t practice, but it’s actually okay if I don’t practice everything. Everyone has different skills, and takes happiness from different elements of creating art. I hope you can take a second to both appreciate the art of Drew Parks, and revisit whatever it is that draws you to look at or create art.
