It’s hard to get away from weapons in games.

It does not matter how unrealistic the dream of what most games show as combat is, there is something satisfying about swinging a thump stick at someone else with a sharp stick and not getting holes poked into you while also bashing holes into them.

If the above paragraph does not showcase my complex feelings about these sorts of things I don’t know what will.

I will say that there is something beautiful about well designed weapons. Whether from an engineering standpoint for modern ones or a cold simplicity found in most common ancient designs, well designed weapons stand out no matter how you are using them.

This pack comes with a very nice selection of weapons to choose from and some interesting material choices to go with them, let’s dive in.

This Hierarchy is more dense than it needs to be for sure, much of the actual weapons portion of the pack, the part you are trying to download is intertwined with the showcase scene. This is something I run into time and time again, I love a great showcase scene but I also want to be able to remove it with the least amount of hassle afterwards.

That said, it’s still not terrible and everything is pretty easy to find.

The Material setup aims for maximum efficiency, it does not give you a ton of leeway in changing the materials up on them but it does make for a lot less in the way of engine instructions.

There are three weapons on this sheet

This set up definitely maximizes the UV space on the sheets BUT to be warned, when using these weapons and they are NOT all in the same scene at the same time you do not get as much in the way of resource savings as you would if they were all there. Basically its loading a larger textures sheet than it would normally need for say, one dagger.

That said, the weapons look fantastic. They have wear and tear and just a general believable air to them that makes them useful for a ton of different applications.

Even as potential hero pieces these meshes are not especially complex, coming in under 1–2k Tris for the most part.

So this packs weapons are beautiful, selectively efficient on texture space and definitely well designed as meshes. The biggest and best takeaway from it though is that they are all rigged and ready for animation with all the sockets needed to have your character wield them as you see fit.

That makes this pack incredibly valuable and definitely adds an incentive to go check out their other packs if they are made with that same, often overlooked, aspect in mind.

Check out more of their stuff here!

Some Pros to force your hand

  • Prepped for animation
  • Beautifully made meshes and textures.

Some cons to take away.

  • Selectively efficient texture sheets may not be the most efficient for every application of these assets.
