Mária Zborovska’s Journey as an Artist has been Anything but Linear
Her skillset is an incredible array of interconnected but commonly unaffiliated skills that she has made work for her career in an incredible way.
Mária Zborovska has had an incredible journey towards art, picking it up late in life after her career path was seemingly already chosen. Deviating from what seems like an immutable path is incredibly difficult, stepping out of a safe career at IBM and diving into the wonderful but chaotic world of freelance art. The video below is an amazing interview that tells the story better than any words I could write but I will still give it a try.

Mária develops some really fantastic environments. She stepped into the limelight in a big way, her concepts featuring prominently among the beautiful art that came out of the Last of Us Part 2 development. She expresses more detail than I am used to seeing in concept art, utilizing blender and photoshop to realize her interpretation of whatever vision her art director is handing her. It is a beautiful painted style that is reminiscent in some ways of highly detailed oil paintings.
She has had a different sort of career path that has lead to her having a unique insight for the technical aspects of a projects which no doubt helps her understand where her work fits into the the grand scheme of things. She currently works at One Pixel Brush as a Freelance Concept Artist. I am looking forward to seeing more of her work on her portfolios, whether it be more professional work or personal work that she has not posted yet.
