Showcasing your work is one of the most important things in a creative field. For work that relies on motion to sell an idea or to communicate a point, Gifs and video are generally the most practical methods of presentation. That is where ScreenToGif comes in.

ScreenToGiF is a free, light weight program that is easy to install.

This video gives a good rundown of startup and how to work with it.

Once you download and start the program you will be met with a clean and simple UI.

Once you select record, you are brought to this layout. The box can be moved around anywhere on your desktop and will always default to the topmost layer, recording anything in its bounds.

After recording, you are brought to this layout that lets you edit the GiF.

Opening the file menu allows you to start a new GiF, Save or do any number of actions.

The saving is the most flexible part of this program, allowing you to pick multiple formats to save your recording as.

The GiFs are smooth and work well in any medium that accepts them.

Some Pros to force your hand

  • Editing gives you a lot of power for your gifs, much more than other GIF recorders
  • The ability to export as multiple file types gives you a lot of options.
  • Free download is always going to win points.

Some cons to take away.

  • Some of the UI can be buggy, causing your GiFs to run overlong.
  • You cannot go back and edit gifs once you close the program or start a new recording.
