After working for years with Tanner Kalstrom, it is always great to run into another ThinkTank Training Center Alumni out in the wild. Shakhzaman graduated just this year and has already had the chance to dive into some awesome work at Leartes Studio as a freelancer. Previously he had multiple awesome features at The Rookies while helping to manage the social media presence as a Social Media Coordinator. Definitely a smart career choice, working with a great educational and signal boosting group while finishing your developer education and using that to springboard into some cool work.

I love his ability to take very personal, sometimes intensely emotional scenes and translate them from concept into the 3D space. Bad Guys 7 was his Final Foundation project at Thinktank and its an amazing translation of a Guweiz piece. Most of his work has this same level of detail even when he expands the scale upward and outward like in the Evangelion environment shown below.

Bad Guys 7–3D

Pretty happy to have found Shakhzaman Kasteyev’s work, probably the best part of my job if I am being honest is getting a chance to really dig into artists work who I might not have come across on my own. Hoping to see more of his personal work in the future, I can only assume he’s being kept super busy with making awesome environments for Leartes Studio.
