These Free Particle Effects and Shaders stand the Test of Time

Time for another particle pack!

This particle collection by SKJ has a great amount of variety. They stick mostly to saturated colors and simple effects, but that can be quite useful depending on the style you are looking for.

This pack is on the lighter side of Unity assets we’ve looked into. That may be a draw if you’re looking to keep project sizes small.

An important note is that there are several scripts you can pick apart and use for other effects or interactions.

This is the case for other packs as well, but it’s a good thing to remember!

The meat of the pack is the demo scenes, there is a set for every type. Interestingly enough while the overall amount of effects are less than the previous pack, each type has 3 or more variations of the same effect so that increases its usefulness immensely.

The toon shader variation is interesting, I have never considered working in a style that would match these but I don’t know that I have seen any effects like this elsewhere. They could be extremely useful for that alone.

The non toon effects look good, through the scripts and the various controls you are able to adjust things like the effect timing and color.

Each scene showcases the colors and difference ways you can adjust the particles.

I would suggest this pack in conjunction with the Unity Particle pack that I covered earlier.

These particles aren’t as complex or consistently useful as the official Unity pack I covered before, but work well as stand-in effects during the prototyping stage and if your style matches it, they can definitely make it into the final product. I plan on using this kit whenever I put all of these market peeks into one workable project in the future.

Some Pros to force your hand

  • They work perfectly for a prototype, or in the end product if your style matches properly.
  • The controls allow you to create many different variations.

Some cons to take away.

  • The effects are not complex enough to be used in a more realistic game.
