Platformers are a massive mainstay in the gaming industry. They were some of the first fully functional games and they will continue to be a part of the industry for..well I assume ever.

Platforming as a mechanic is a wonderful way to add difficulty requring skills in timing and coordination. It is also one that is not mutually exclusive with other mechanics like combat, etc. You can look at games like Castlevania and Braid to see the wide breadth of types that these games can fall under.

The kit we are covering

First things first, the price point is our favorite part because a Free asset is always a great asset for a beginning dev.

The folder Hierarchy is very dense, a lot of assets are in this pack but the organization is still alright. It can take some time to dig through all of the assets.

Every object comes with a sprite sheet for all of your basic animation needs.

The layout is pretty normal in the demo scene, everything is flat against another piece and the depth is simulated with a solid perspective on the background.

The pack has a lot of assets and is free. That weighs it pretty strongly on the positive even with the unfortunately dense folder hierarchy and the way that the pack has been updated parallel to the original rather than replacing the original.

Being free this one is pretty good for testing concepts and ideas without having to spend time and money on whatever your final assets would be, or searching around for filler assets. Just grab this one and get started.

Some Pros to force your hand

  • Free
  • A ton of assets
  • Sprite Sheets included for all the animations promised.
  • Cute and generally agnostic art style, you could finish a game with most of these assets.

Some cons to take away.

  • The updates are in a seperate folder and not added to the overall structure of the demo.
  • Folders are kind of a mess, can be hard to navigate through all of them as they are organized now.
