Visual Effects are one of the totally necessary additions to any game. It is incredibly hard to sell any sort of interaction without a reasonable reaction. It’s physics afterall.

They are also some of the most time consuming portions of the dev process, eating up at least one person’s time non stop and requiring a large amount of iteration to get correct and matched properly to the actions in place. Almost every discipline that goes into making a game touches FVX work, only adding to its complexity.

This pack is an absolutely awesome example of what the company behind a game engine can do to provide a wide range of tools to their users.

Seen above: Awesome

This pack is one of the Market Peaks packs that I could see being used and still useful in a shipped project.

The vast amount of effects that the kit offers (38 unique effects) gives you a ton of power especially when mixed and matched and used as scaffolding to create your own look and feel.

Seen above: Did I mention awesome?

The demo scene is well put together, letting you stroll through the chaos of well created particle effects with informative popups whenever you stop to study each one.

Informative without the risk of actually looking at an energy explosion

This kit has a ton of content, prefabs and all the pieces you need to build your own great effects inside your game.

Seen above: Yet more awesome

All in all, this is an outstanding download. I can see this being incredibly useful in my future Unity projects and as I said earlier is a great example of content that a game engine’s creator can offer to really give the users the tools they need.

Some Pros to force your hand

  • A great layout to examine each effect.
  • Easy to drag and drop around the scene.
  • All the tools to mix and match, combine and create new effects as your own needs dictate.
  • Free

Some cons to take away.

  • Not much in the way of stylized effects, this could be a detriment at least for the effects reaching the final production in your game.
  • The ease of this kits usages may create something of a crutch when attempting to expand your VFX use. Remember your VFX artists are people too.
