This style and era is often romanticized. When you take the advent of steam, manufacturing and the whole of the world standing on the brink of an incredible amount of economic and societal upheaval the era right before or around it tends to get featured a lot.

The first thing I thought of whenever I was looking at this pack is, this would mix so well with a steampunk focused pack. Being able to weave steampunk pipes and themes with genuine looking victorian sets would make for a really nice effect. Also you would only have to build one and not the other.

This folder organization was a bit strange to me but it works for the pack. It stands out because it is relatively easy to wipe the pack of any assets that you would not want to use, like the standard assets.

The materials in the pack are pretty nice, they have varying degrees of wear to them, though there is no real way to control for this in engine. You will have to take the textures into photoshop or something similar before you can make a clean version or a grungier version if you so desire.

There are different, nice touches that you can find. The books are really nicely done, though ultimately background noise in most cases I love the attention to detail when it comes to the wear and tear on the binding.

The materials are mostly set to unique UV sheets though there are a few tilables, mainly for things like the floor and ceiling. The walls are actually set to their own UV sheets which is smart and kind of surprising. Most often you see just a tileable set on top of that but in this case they created a more interesting texture with the wallpaper and wood details.

The meshes seem pretty effecient, there are a few cases where the scene would have been done a favor with a few more polygons though.

The meshes are double sided though, this is both a blessing and a curse. It was something that I should have touched on in the japanese classroom pack.

In that pack the scene was basically one sided. You were inside the classroom. Now this is easily remedied by using the assets and building out something like hallways or other rooms but it can make it a pain to work around sometimes.

With this pack you do not have that issue, you can easily iterate an interior using these and not have invisible backs. That comes with its own problems though.

Your hallway had better have the same wallpaper as the room, which is relatively unlikely. Which will end up forcing you to build your walls thicker and have areas textured that you may not ever need to show. Or should show.

It makes building out things more complicated in general, though it IS something you can work around and it definitely can be to your benefit.

This pack at the time of writing is priced at $10 and that seems a perfectly reasonable price for what you get. There are a ton of lighting and atmospheric things that you can dig into to try to emulate and the assets themselves are extremely useful if you are planning anything in this particular them or aesthetic.

Some Pros to force your hand

  • Beautiful and perfect for a victorian or steampunk theme.
  • Well designed materials and meshes should see a lot of use.

Some cons to take away.

  • Double sided meshes where it may not be most advantageous, there may be an engine setting for this that I am not aware of though.
