It was a week of ‘’nearly-theres’’ for the GameWisp development team. We’re currently juggling much of the core GameWisp functionality simultaneously. While tons of progress has been made on videos and series, each major component still needs a little more time in the oven.

Here’s a quick dev update update about the progress we’ve made on GameWisp this week:

  • YouTube interoperability is nearly there. You can easily push content to YouTube from GameWisp and vice versa. YouTube Playlists are automatically converted to series on GameWisp. We still need to do some work moving GameWisp series to YouTube as playlists and editing the appropriate YouTube playlists when you make changes to a GameWisp series. As “you’ll have to take our word for it” proof, here’s a video that GameWisp recently uploaded to YouTube for us:
  • Channel dashboards are getting more robust. The Dashboard has a more comprehensive log of activity that shows future activity (e.g., upcoming episode releases, etc.) and current activity (e.g., the upload progress of a video being automatically sent to YouTube). This is work in progress and pretty gross looking, so no screenshots yet.
  • Series management is getting there. We’re hard at work providing sensical default suggestions for release dates, episode titles, descriptions, tags, etc. so creators don’t have to manually fill all this stuff out when uploading a new episode to GameWisp.
  • Sponsorship is almost done. We support sponsorship on the back-end, GameWisp’s beautification division is hard at work deuglifying the sponsorship UI made by the API engineers. (Note: Our current internal working title for “Sponsors” is “Insiders”.)
  • Improved YouTube account linking. You can now choose read-only or managed status for a linked YouTube account, and the benefits of each option are clearly displayed.
  • General Deuglification. We did a design pass on several parts of the site, with the Edit Channel and Edit Profile pages seeing the most love. Part of this was aesthetic, but we also wanted profile / channel banners and logos to reflect the dimensions used throughout the site better. We also included more text to make it clear what dimensions of images work the best. Here’s a portion of the new Channel Edit page.

Other Stuff:

  • If you want to hear more specifically from the dev team, and/or ask us more about what we’re up to, check out our Morning Coffee livestream every Mon — Fri at 9AM CST on Twitch.
  • If you care about our thoughts on gaming video, check out our weekly podcast. Here’s the latest episode.
  • We’re set to begin a creator beta of videos and series on Dec. 1. If you’re interested in participating, drop us a line at info@gamewisp.com.

That’s all for now. We’ll be back next week with even more development updates!
