Yet again, Dota 2 breaks the record for the largest prize pool, by beating their own record from last year. Their annual tournament, ‘The International’, the main to be held at KeyArena in Seattle next month, has a $18,429,613 prize pool for this year’s annual tournament.

So we see that the state of e-sports is taking a global turn. Year on year, the prize pool is taking a hike, and now the pool has reached a mammoth amount of over $18 million. Being a programmer in this age really pays. Although this tournament is conducted yearly, you can participate in DOTA 2 tournaments organized by PlayX which is conducted on a much more frequent basis.

DOTA 2 is available for free of cost and its prize pool for the ‘The International’ is crowd-funded. Vale provides about $1.6 million each year, and the rest of the pool is funded by purchases made by gamers inside the game. These purchases include quests and cosmetics as well. This year, Valve had introduced Battle Passes and Compendiums and had coupled them with weekend sales, which appeal to the gamers, and entice them into making further in-game purchases.

However, Dota is just one of the games that see such a huge prize pool. It certainly is the largest prize pool in the history of e-sports, but there are other games like Overwatch, Fifa, Riot Game’s League of Legends and others which are played on a large scale across the globe. Apart from these, there are games like Counter Strike, Call of Duty, and even mobile-based games like Clash of Clan, which have regular tournaments on Playx.

Although Overwatch is new, the other games have been around for a while now and have a huge popularity. Well, it certainly is a great idea to take your passion for gaming to the next level, which can support you as well. Who knows you could win the next prize money at a tournament organized by Playx or Valve.
